According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in the first seven months of 2023, the total export turnover of the Agriculture - Forestry - Fisheries sector is estimated at 29.13 billion USD.
Groups with increased export value include: Agricultural products reached nearly 14.99 billion USD, up 13.2% (in which export value of vegetables and fruits group reached 3.23 billion USD, up 68.1%; rice $2.58 billion, up 29.6%; cashew nuts $1.95 billion, up 9.8%; coffee $2.76 billion, up 6%); livestock products 276 million USD, up 27.4%. The price of rice alone is 534 USD/ton, up 9.2%; coffee USD 2,540/ton, up 12.8%.
In which, the export value of some groups decreased such as: The export value of aquatic products reached USD 4.95 billion, down 25.4%; forest products 7.79 billion USD, down 25.5%; production input reached 1.13 billion USD, down 25.1%.
Regarding the export market, in the first 7 months of the year, the export value of agricultural, forestry and fishery products to markets in Asia led the way with 14.06 billion USD.
China, the United States and Japan continue to be the three largest Agro-Forestry-Fisheries export markets. America reached 6.52 billion USD, Europe reached 3.29 billion USD, Africa reached 573 million USD, Oceania reached 408 million USD.
In the first 7 months of 2023, the export value of agricultural and livestock products increased sharply, but the group of aquatic and forestry inputs for production decreased by more than 25% over the same period.
The agricultural industry is expected to export 55 billion USD by the end of 2023. Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien said that the whole agriculture sector is still determined to take advantage of opportunities and concentrate resources to fulfill the set target of the whole year, which is the GDP growth rate of the whole industry reaching 3.0-3.5%; export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products reached 55 billion USD. To accomplish this goal, it is necessary to implement solutions to affect key export products with high potential and potential to increase export value to compensate for products that are expected to fail to meet the annual export turnover target.
The target is the main agricultural product reaching 25 billion USD; forest products and wooden furniture 17 billion USD; seafood 10 billion USD; other items about 3 billion USD. Along with boosting exports, special attention should be paid to production to ensure sufficient supply and quality. Therefore, it is necessary to closely monitor the weather, meteorology, hydrology, storms, floods, natural disasters, water sources, saltwater intrusion in order to timely orientate the seasons and the appropriate crop structure; well manage the granting of planting area codes, farming areas, support for trademark protection and geographical indications, product traceability.
Along with vegetables and fruits, the rice industry is also expecting an export turnover of 4 billion USD for the whole year after a remarkable growth in the first 6 months of the year.
In the coming time, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will closely coordinate with the Ministry of Industry and Trade to implement mechanisms and policies for trade promotion, negotiating market opening and development to promptly solve problems to promote the export of agricultural, forestry and fishery products; proactively forecast and take advantage of opportunities from FTAs to promote exports.
At the same time, grasp the situation of production, processing and consumption of agricultural products, promote circulation and border trade, and implement urgent measures to reduce congestion and promote the export of agricultural products at the northern border gates, especially for agricultural products in the harvest season. Besides, in collaboration with Embassies, Commercial Counselors, Agricultural Counselors of Vietnam in other countries to build exchange channels, provide information on export markets, strengthen promotion and advertising for machinery and equipment products serving the Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries industry to increase productivity.
