2021-05-27 - 5 years ago

For the first time in the world, robots have been used to pack avocados at a factory in the Netherlands, with a processing capacity of 240 fruits per minute.

Nature's Pride, a Dutch-based fruit and vegetable company, has put robots in the packaging of avocados. This is the first time in the world that avocados are packed by robots.

This technology, called Speedpacker, makes packing avocados more convenient and efficient with no loss in quality. Speedpacker has three feed streams and is capable of handling 240 avocados per minute.

Nature's Pride teamed up with machinery manufacturer Selo to develop the Speedpacker. This process takes about 2 years and involves extensive testing. The robot is currently working in a packing room in Maasdijk (Netherlands).

Willibrord Woertman, CEO of Selo, said, "This is a unique partnership in which Nature's Pride has contributed all of its knowledge of avocados, and Selo has knowledge of robotics and grippers. The two companies have worked together and succeeded in bringing robots to pack this fruit instead of manual packaging.
